A few years ago I took a newspaper writing class. It was actually a really good learning experience. The one thing that was stressed over and over again was to make sure that your sentences said what you mean. Make sense? Don't worry I have an example... I came prepared...
Yesterday I was reading the story about the plane crash in Florida... the first version of it had this sentence... "At least one of those killed was a small child, Sanford Fire Chief Gerard Ransom told reporters." Are you kidding me? That sounds like well yeah one kid was killed or something... I think a better way that this could have been written is something more like "it is known that one of those killed was a small child..."
Another thing that got my attention yesterday while reading various things (Harpers Weekly this time)
"President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin rode Segway scooters together." I don't know - but I think there should be more important things that these two guys do other than ride Segways...
