It's pink, because that's the color we'll wear to accomplish our goal.

Participating is simple. Just wear pink (any item of clothing will do) on 10/27/08 and make a donation of $5 or more to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the leader of the global breast cancer movement. If you'd like to contribute online, please use the link below. In return for your contribution, you'll get a pink ribbon pin and the satisfaction of helping to move us closer to a world free of breast cancer.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to be involved in planning our event. Thanks in advance for your help and for showing your true colors by going Passionately Pink for the Cure on 10/27/08.

The Donation Site

Thank you
Nicole

Smoking ban

Finally the smoking_ban has finally been passed...

A Bunch of Randomness

The weather is getting perfect for Football season unlike two weekends ago at the Pitt home opener was not only a loss but I was literally burning up in the stands. My poor forehead was bright red the next day and I had a funky tan line err burn line from my sunglasses.

This past weekend however, it was cooler out (night game) and Pitt WON!!! yeah... take that Buffalo... ha The field proved equally as lucky for the Steelers who crushed the Texans... I must say after pre-season I was a bit worried about what the black and gold could/would do this season... Just got to take it one game at a time, and if they take them at all like the home opener I will be a happy Steeler fan all season long.

Sadly, the Pirates have now tied for worst losing team ever... making this year their 16th straight losing season. No team since the 1930's has lost that many seasons consecutively. I heard though this morning on the radio that there are changes being made from the ground up and maybe just maybe the team will be a lot better next season.

******

Something that has been bothering me... the Port_Authority ... yes public transportation.... I cannot understand one, why they won't reply back to my suggestion of getting a bus that goes from where I live to where I work on their park and ride schedule. It actually makes a lot of sense - and there are several people that live and work in these two specific areas. And since parking is at a minimum and gas is at $3.60+ a gallon (well it dropped a smidge) why not make it easy on people. To take a bus to work, I would have to take a minimum of two buses, possibly three depending on which park and ride I would go to. That would take an extra hour and half in the morning and evening for me to get home.

Another person I emailed and got no response from about not only the bus situation but the drink tax business was Dan Onorato. I don't understand how all the sudden property taxes were brought into it and if enough money was made to bail the buses out in the first quarter then why not do some research and figure out how to improve the entire system... sort of like the Pirates are doing... from the ground up. Find out what routes are working and which are not...

And for heavens sakes... how about lowering the tax a bit... where is all this money going... Politicians pockets???? Because I sure as hell am not seeing it in mine... But never fear, I will remember how my email was not answered at voting time... Perhaps it is time for a change in this city...

I have watched the View off and on for many many years. Mostly when I am on vacation or just have the day off from work... I have enjoyed the show for the most part. I do however miss the original cast of hosts being together... And I cannot stand Hasslebeck at all. I think I may have stated it before once or twice... but apparently she has made some more waves, with not just me this time, here_is the clip. Now, I personally feel that she didn't have decency when making her comments, why should the view be curious when talking to her about it... do it on the air... so all can see.

*******

Having friends in the military this article was a bit sad... that the suicide rate is that high... a quote out of that article "The rise can be attributed to the increased pace of combat operations, the number of deployments and financial and family troubles connected with deployments, Army officials said." So basically not only do we have to fear losing our soldiers in combat, but that if they are lucky enough to survive deployment that they might end up committing suicide due to said deployment. How sad...

Speaking of sad, tomorrow marks the anniversary of September 11th. A day that I still remember as if it were yesterday... where I was, what I was doing, what I was wearing...

********

Wanting to end on a more uplifting positive note... I thought a little music might help out... this is the song on the radio right now... enjoy...

Customer Service... Where the hell did you go?

Something lately has had me a little disgusted... I think it started back when my mom and I went to a beauty_supply store and the woman/employee behind the counter was talking about disgusting topics that she should not be talking about when she has paying customers standing there waiting to be rung up (ie my mom and me).

Then this past week my sister's car breaks down and they took it to Bowser where she purchased said car. Now, despite the fact that they totally ripped my sister off, in my opinion, and everyone pretty much called the repair shop and yelled (or conversated loudly) at the repair shop these people are just complete assholes. They are doing a disservice to the dealer to be honest with you. Basically my sister was charged a good say 400$ for the repairs done, when this was brought to their attention they said they would look into it and 'possibly refund her a portion of the money.' What a joke, they aren't refunding anything.

I honestly think that someone should look into the practices of the repair shop and instead of pumping cars in and out as quickly as possible... spend a little time and figure out what is wrong with them - before sending them back out on the road... do you know what an inconvenience that is? (That didn't happen to Nat, but to others). I mean hell, your getting paid what 90$ an hour for your fee...

Oh well, bottom line, between two families SIX cars have been purchased at the dealer - so let's say each car averaged around 15K - that's approximately 90,000$ this dealer made off of these families... It would be a shame if these people started looking elsewhere for their next car... because of the repair shops attitudes.

When did people stop caring about their quality of work? Although I am not sure that the said dealership had any to begin with... I will tell you a great little story about how this specific dealership repair shop ruined a 700$ part and until they actually sent it out to be confirmed that they had indeed ruined the part they were going to make the owner of the car pay for it... well until I stepped in and told them that they were bleeping incompetent and shouldn't be allowed to work on cars if they can't figure out when you are supposed to stop tightening a bolt.

Why is it that the customer service aspect of what seems to be everything has faded away... that no one cares and it is only about the almighty dollar?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://nicolesblueeyes.blogspot.com/2008/08/customer-service-where-hell-did-you-go.html' title='Customer Service... Daniel Sepulveda the punter... a great punter at that... is out for the season thanks to a torn ACL... sigh... not only is Sepulveda out - the replacement punter Paul Ernster. I believe it was in this game that Ernster punted a ten... yes, you read that correctly a TEN YARD punt.

There surely has to be another punter out there that is up to the challenge... that is good and that can punt more than 10 yards... PLEASE tell me that there is.

Sadly more injuries occurred in training camp yesterday... sigh... what is going on over there... or is it that during the off season the players just got THAT out of shape... Maybe it is just me but if I was getting paid that kind of cash, my butt would be in tip-top shape (at least it would be in time for training camp - after all everyone needs a break every now and again...)

Still in football news, check out the football_fans_diet blog. The thing that irritates me about it is that I got that blasted shot in my bum and I am not thoroughly convinced that it did anything more than cause me to have a drop in my blood pressure and passing out business.

I'm just glad that the ivy blotches are now scabbing up and soon I will be able to shave that portion of my leg again... It is seriously causing me issues that I cannot shave (I clearly have issues).

In other news... I have recently lunched at the Frick... I am not a fan usually of the higher end eateries as they are usually too fancy and the food blows. This time was no different. Studying the menu I opted for a chicken sandwich. I thought that it would be the safest choice. HA HA... After killing several small ants that were inhabiting the table (we were sitting outside) the sandwich arrived and not only was it a mix of white and dark meat - the chicken still had the skin on... Oh it was gross...

So I composed a nice stern email stating my dissatisfaction for the lunch and the ant business... I am getting a 25$ gift card to try my luck again. I think this time though, I will stick to things I know I will enjoy... scones with clotted cream and jam and tea... mmm.... who says nothing in the world is free anymore?!

Well time to publish, but before I do, thought I would share what I was listening to while typing... check out the clip here

Tire fun

As promised, the tire story...

My little Beetle needed four tires, the others were pretty worn out and looked like they were racing slicks instead of the all-season radials that they were. Tires for my car are kind of expensive, they are wide and kinda big... not what you would think for a Beetle really.

I called around a few places trying to find a good deal and the cheapest I could find was $600 for tires, installation, etc. etc. which in my opinion is way TOO EXPENSIVE! But I kept searching and found a tire place about 7 miles from home that could order the tires for my car and give them to me at $67 a piece which is significantly cheaper and more in my price range. So I told the man to go and order them that if they were in I could be there that Saturday to get them put on.

Mind you, this is the same Saturday of the shot and blood pressure dropping at the MedExpress place. I was getting the tires right after that. Still not feeling 100% I drove the short distance to the tire place and as soon as I pulled into the lot I felt a little scared.

Most garages are um, dirty because well, they deal with dirty things all day long. This place though took the word dirty to a whole new filthy level. Garbage bags overflowing filled with fast food containers, old chip bags on the floor, smell of funky dog, flies and insects all over the place. I felt like I not only needed a shower but a tetanus shot as well.

The thing is though, for as unsanitary as this place was, they had my tires on in a half hour and they were cheap. I just paced around outside for the time it took because well I didn't want to sit down on the chair in the 'waiting room'. It was like a sauna in there and smelled of wet dog. The chair also had springs coming up out of it... oh yeah and I just had gotten a shot in my ass - so why would I want to sit down anyway.

I will probably go to this place again for tires, I mean they were cheap and fast and I have no issues with the tires, but next time I might take some cleaning products with me and maybe a fold up chair... ha ha

Poison Ivy is the Devil

Two Sunday's ago I was out doing yard work. The yard in question is filled with poison ivy. To some, no big deal, to me, well I get it bad. I wore a long sleeve shirt and pants, even tucking the pants into my shoes so no bare ankle would be shown. I had on gloves and took every precaution not to get poison ivy.

I was so pleased with my efforts, I didn't wake up with any skin aliment that next morning or the morning after. I figured I was safe. HA HA...

That Wednesday night I helped carry the garbage bags that contained the vines in it up to the curb. DUMB DUMB DUMB! I guess some of the oil was on the bags and Thursday morning I woke up scratching my wrist. Half asleep I didn't think that it was anything. Then as I continued to scratch, I thought to myself - SHIT this is poison ivy!!!

Indeed it was. I quickly scrubbed my wrist with this kick ass scrub stuff. I watched carefully making sure that it wasn't spreading. Later that afternoon a few blisters popped up on my ankle. Ok still not too bad. In a bit of discomfort but all in all not too bad.

A few days pass, It is now Saturday and I was going to have a busy day, had to get tires for my Beetle. But when I woke up, there were 3 little poison ivy dots on my face. SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!

I was getting a little worried now. Somehow I am still spreading this damned stuff and now it is on my face. I wear contacts, what if it goes into my eyes... Freaking out just a little, I went to MedExpress to see if they can give me a prescription for steroids to stop this blasted poison ivy.

The last time I had poison ivy (I believe it was actually oak) was a few years ago, it was horrible and I was given the steroids to take... my face swelled up like Ernie (of the famous Bert and Ernie) but the disfigurement went away.

This time they gave me a shot. Now, first of all, I don't do well with needles and them getting forced into my person. Second of all, this shot had to be given square in my bum. Which I might add, still hurts.

I didn't cry or scream out in pain, even though it hurt like hell and burned. I thought this was supposed to make me better. HA! I was released and I walked out to my car, but I started to feel a little funny. Lightheaded and started to sweat. Oh this isn't good, I am here alone and I felt like I was going to black out.

I took a few deep breaths, not helping at all. I walked back into the building and must have looked horrible, because I sure as hell felt it. I went up to the 'sign in' girl and said "I just got a shot and I really don't feel right."

She told me to take a seat, which was probably good because I am not sure how I was keeping upright. The doctor that saw me came out within seconds and helped me back into an exam room where I was to lay flat and they put a monitor on me and cold compresses. My blood pressure (both top and bottom numbers) dropped 20 points.

I wasn't having a reaction to the steroid that just got shot into my bum, I was having a reaction to the shot itself. The ordeal of the needle going into me. She kept calling it some term that begins with a 'V' but I don't remember the exact terminology.

Long story short, I stayed there until my blood pressure went back up to what it was when I originally went in. They kept monitoring me and slowly got me to my feet. I still have the ivy, but it is now drying out and hasn't gotten any worse.

Tomorrow I will tell you about the tire place...

Pittsburgh Drink Tax...

It is my understanding that the Drink_Tax was created to help bail out the Port Authority once again from its debts. The tax was so high that there will be a surplus of money so instead of taking the tax away, they are going to use it to keep property taxes down.

Ok, now there was never any mention of property tax to begin with so WTF - you are just being greedy with peoples money. We shouldn't have had to bail out the Port Authority. Instead they should be wiped out and start from scratch. Look at the other major cities, Chicago, New York, they have amazing transit systems. Ours is horrible. I would love to ride the bus to work but I can't. It is not even that there is no direct route to work from my home, but I would have to take multiple buses and go out of my way. No wonder no one wants to ride the damn bus, they are not making it convenient for anyone.

Weekend Fun

My sister and I had been running a lot of errands this weekend but in between all that we wanted to catch the latest exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center, The Titanic. We went down to the science center to us yesterday only to find out that the exhibit was closed because of Kenny freaking Chesney.... I was a little pissed off about this... I mean you go all the way down there to find out that the exhibit is closed because of some country music concert.

We went back today and it was well worth it. I was a little on the fence about it all though. Like shouldn't the artifacts stay underwater undisturbed and let the dead have a peaceful grave. But after seeing it and learning more about the Titanic and the sinking - It was very educational and sad at the same time.

When you purchase your ticket to see the exhibit you are given a post card that is a replica of one of the tickets you would have gotten when buying a ticket for the Titanic. On the back is the name of one of the passengers and a little bio on that person. At the end of the exhibit they have a list of all the people that survived and those that didn't make it - you can see if your person made it or not - mine did.

I would have to say it was well worth it. I have always been fascinated by the story of the Titanic. To think that a majority of the deaths were caused by hypothermia and not injuries incurred by the sinking of the ship was even sadder.

Friday the 13th...

Happy Friday_the_13th... a day that is supposed to be followed with bad luck and unfortunate happenings and a slew of bad horror movies... I have had some of the worst Friday the 13ths over the years... chalk it up to my clumsiness I suppose. I remember this one time while in high school I actually accidentally hit my head off of my locker. Thankfully there was no blood but I am thoroughly convinced that it was due to the fact it was a Friday the 13th.

Moving on...

The other day I was watching the news and they were talking about how Katherine_Heigl is dissing Grey's and how she didn't get an Emmy winning performance so she isn't even going to throw her hat in the ring of contenders. There is something about this girl that I just don't like. Ever since I first started watching Grey's - and her subsequent interviews, she just errks me. Not to mention the fact that she has bad mouthed practically everything she has been in... Remember her interviews about Knocked Up...

Here is my thoughts, you are getting paid thousands of dollars for a few weeks of work. Suck it up and do your job. There are people out there busting their asses for a lot harder's day work making not even a fourth of what you just took home and you have the nerve to sit there and bitch about it.

Seriously get a clue...

Now that I got that little rant out of the way... ha ha...

The Arts_festival is still going strong this weekend... hopefully I will be able to check it out a little ... also am going to go see the Titanic exhibition this weekend. Should be overall a good weekend...

Well gotta get going... stay safe!!

It's about time....

The smoking ban in PA has finally been passed... All I can say is it is about damn time. I love watching the news footage for this story, all the smokers pissed off because they can no longer smoke here or there. Me, I am just the opposite. I am glad that this ban has finally been passed even if it has contingencies to the rules.

As I have stated many times before, I am not a smoker, I hate going out and end up coming home smelling like stale smoke. It's not fair to me or my lungs to have to deal with that. Granted, smokers are losing their rights too... but there 'right' is to smoke, not cause others harm from their activity's.

It is stated that second hand smoke is even worse than smoking the cigarette. Amazing. Essentially all these people whining and moaning about not being able to smoke are just bummed because they can no longer bring a slow death to all those around them.

If restaurants actually had a good ventilation system installed then you can't tell that someone near you is smoking. But 9 times out of 10 the restaurant has a very poor system and you end up with a side of smoke with your meal, which really just sucks.

Speaking of smoking and eating... how do smokers do it? How can they eat and smoke at the same time... I have seen this many a times and I just can't wrap my brain around it. Doesn't the smoke distort the taste of the food? Are they just that addicted that they need that lit cigarette in their fingers at all times?

Who said you can't get anything free

Hello everyone,

I am back... it's been a while since I have seriously blogged... I have posted some things here and there but no real stories...

Life has been busy lately and I will fill everyone in on that soon... promise... Oh but I will mention now that I am no longer a blonde... I have gone back to brunette.

Other things that have been going on... on a more 'entertaining' note... I have gone to see a few movies lately. A few weeks ago I went to see Speed Racer... It wasn't bad but I was disappointed that it wasn't that much like the cartoon. There were a few cartoons that I watched as a child, the ones that I never missed... One being Speed Racer (the others, Transformers, Thundercats, GI Joe and Mask (the cartoon - not that Cher movie )). The other movie I went to see, like millions of other ladies, Sex_in the City.

The movie itself wasn't bad, I was hoping for a little more from it maybe. I wanted Samantha to be a little more feisty or spunky or something I think. I was running a little late to the movie, I missed the previews (YEAH!!!) but the ladies I was meeting at the theater bought my ticket for me so I was ok with the running late part. It was $5.00 night and the theater was packed... no visible seats available except for the one I was about to sit my bum in. There was this family that went to see the movie, who brought a very small child with them. Now without giving away the movie, you will see penis' and nipples in this movie oh and it is rated R... HELLO people what makes you think this is ok to bring a small child to?

Not only was the small child fidgety, the family wouldn't shut up and the one didn't turn off her damn cell phone... Manners people!!

Now, getting to the free part. I met with someone I have been conversing with via email for a while now about some articles that I have written. Anyway, we met at a local restaurant and as I waited for her to arrive I ordered an Iced Tea... When we were getting ready to I asked the waitress for my bill so I could pay for my tea... she said not to worry about it that she didn't even ring it in... Just when I thought everything in the world was going up in price, I got a free tea :)

Well, I am going to close there... I have got to figure out what to wear to work tomorrow - 90 degrees and rain -

An open letter

Dear Friends,

I am getting thoroughly disgusted with the continued increase in gas prices. It is getting out of hand and causing a lot of grief for a lot of people that cannot afford to fill their tanks.

When I started to drive back in the early ‘90’s gas was under a dollar a gallon. Now I realize that with inflation gas would never be that cheap again, but this is ridiculous. It is nearly $4.00 a gallon for the cheap grade (in Pittsburgh) and I am sure it has reached that and then some in other cities.

Meanwhile the oil companies are making millions in profit while we are struggling. It doesn’t seem fair. I heard on the news this morning that even if we were to tap into the surplus that it wouldn’t help because OPEC would just continue to drive up the price.

It is more than apparent that the President is not going to do anything about this as he is the one that said that we shouldn’t tap the surplus. BUT maybe if enough of us raised our pens and started writing to local government, our representatives and senators that something can be done. We could be heard and not just be fluffed off.

There has to be a solution somewhere, but no one wants to say anything because they are enjoying the money that they are making off of us. Well I am tired of it. I am tired of these companies taking money off of the poor. I am tired of putting nearly $80.00 a month in my small car (thank God it gets good gas mileage).

I am asking for your help. Help me make a stand and get our voices heard. Sure you think what could one letter do… but it wouldn’t be one… it would be all of us together.

Thank you
half's time. Over labor day weekend Me and Nat went down to Nashville for a bridal shower and PARTY... as you can see here (above) is the gang that partied... I am sad to say though that one of the party goers spent a good portion of that night with their head in the trash can puking, puking and more puking... I was actually perplexed at how much this chic was puking...

The picture to the right and above is the food from the bridal shower... it was yummy... Crissy did a great job with all of that...

Here is Melissa and I... Nat and I all dressed up for the wedding...
Here is the cookie table ... Now you might ask WHY I have a picture of the cookie table here... Well, It's simple... Nat made all them cookies... and they were damn good too...

And we did get into Nashville one day before we came home from the wedding to do a little sight seeing and shopping... Listened to some bands perform -- and all that...

And of course, we saw the king... he even posed with Nat for this picture... How cool... hehe

And here (below) is Nat and I on the final flight home (probably somewhere over Indiana) all sorts of tired and looking like it too... Oh well, we had fun... so who cares what we look like at 30,000 feet...

Hello -- I'm Still Here!

I've just been incredibly busy...

I have been to a few Pitt football games, I've been to Nashville and going back to Nashville in a few weeks, and a bunch of other stuff.
